Preparing your Skin for a Long-Lasting Solarium Session

Whether you are a first-time tanner, or a regular tanning enthusiast, here are a list of tips to keep in mind based before your tanning session:

-      Start your tanning journey with finding answers to all of your questions or concerns.

Ask around about everything that comes to mind, read about the different types of tanning machines and which suites your skin, and learn more about your skin type and what your needs are. Understand the risks of solarium tanning, and you can be sure you’re using them in the safest way possible.

-          Prep your skin with a shower, shave and exfoliation a day or two before your tanning session. Exfoliating helps prepare your skin before you tan, make sure you aren’t too harsh on your skin and to only exfoliate before the first session.

-          Eat Foods that contain beta carotene like carrots and sweet potatoes that can help you tan without burning. Some studies show that beta carotene can help reduce sun sensitivity in people with photosensitive disease, however this claim isn’t proved yet.

-           Use tanning lotions, bronzers and intensifiers formulated exclusively for sunbed tanning. Lotions not made for the sunbed won’t help your tan and may even cause damage to the sunbed.

-          Hydration is always required, apply a non-oil-based light moisturizer before you head out to your tanning session. You should also hydrate your skin constantly after your sessions.

-          Maintain your glow longer by tanning regularly and using a tan extender.

-          Check the side effects of your prescription medications, some include skin sensitivity with UV exposure

-          Set the tanning bed to the time and power that suits your body. Don’t get greedy for a darker tone can put your skin at risk. Stay wise and safe with the number of times your tan and number of minutes you go for.

-          Wear white clothing. This might be an old tip, but wearing light shades of clothing, especially white, really does create the illusion of tanned skin. Try pairing a white dress or shirt with your accessories for a guaranteed summer fun look.
